Platform Overview

What is Teamed?

Teamed is a staffing and career intelligence platform built exclusively for learning and development professionals. It connects L&D talent with organizations that hire them — through a specialized job board, a curated Talent Pool, full recruitment services, and an AI matching layer.

01What is Teamed

Teamed is a two-sided platform with a candidate side and an employer side. On one side, learning and development professionals use Teamed to find jobs, manage their career presence, and discover professional development resources. On the other, organizations use Teamed to post jobs, browse available professionals, and engage full recruitment services when needed.

Teamed's defining characteristic is exclusive specialization in L&D. Unlike general staffing agencies or broad job boards, every search, every candidate profile, every recruitment engagement, and every career resource on Teamed is specific to the learning and development field. This specialization produces more relevant matches for both candidates and employers, and allows the Teamed team to apply genuine domain knowledge to every engagement.

Teamed was founded in 2017 by Ashley Lonie, who holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and a graduate certificate in Instructional Design and Technology. Ashley spent her career as an instructional designer and director of learning experience design before founding Teamed. The platform reflects direct, first-hand knowledge of the L&D field — not a generalist staffing model applied to a niche.

02Who Teamed serves

On the candidate side, Teamed serves learning and development professionals across all specializations and experience levels — from early-career instructional designers to VP-level L&D leaders. The platform is used by professionals seeking both employee and contractor roles, full-time and part-time, remote and on-site.

On the employer side, Teamed serves any organization that hires L&D professionals: corporate learning teams, non-profits, educational publishers, EdTech companies, colleges and universities, government contractors, and professional services firms. Organizations range from startups making their first L&D hire to established teams scaling rapidly.

Teamed does not staff roles outside learning and development. This includes roles in general HR, marketing, software engineering, sales, or other functions — even at organizations that also have L&D teams.

03How it works

Teamed operates three interconnected hiring paths that employers can use independently or in combination. Candidates interact with all three through a single free account.

Job Board
Employers post job listings. Candidates browse, search, and apply. The job board is specialized for L&D roles and includes AI-powered matching for logged-in candidates. Jobs are visible to all visitors and applications are routed to the employer's preferred channel (external ATS, email, or on-platform). Employers can post jobs for free (up to 5 on the Starter plan, unlimited on Professional).
Talent Pool
A curated directory of L&D professionals who have opted into visibility with hiring managers. Employers browse profiles, filter by skill and availability, message candidates directly, and send hire offers. Candidates control their visibility through three modes: Send my information, Ask me first, or Keep private. Each hire from the Talent Pool carries a placement fee ($500 on Starter, included in Professional).
Expert Recruitment
Full-service recruitment for organizations that need Teamed to manage the entire search. Teamed's recruiters conduct role analysis, source and screen candidates, produce a shortlist, coordinate interviews, and support the hire through offer. The fee is 20% of first-year salary for direct hires and 20% of the hourly rate for contractor placements. If Employer of Record services are elected, the rate remains 20% for 1099 contractors and is 35% for W2 contractors — the W2 rate includes tax withholding, statutory contributions, and benefits access.
Career Board
A curated directory of courses, certifications, events, and professional development resources for L&D professionals. Resources are posted by organizations and educational providers. Teamed's AI matching engine strategically surfaces resources to each candidate based on their stated goals, skill gaps, and career trajectory — so candidates see development options that move them toward where they actually want to go. The Career Board is free for candidates; organizations pay to feature resources.

04Core concepts

Several Teamed-specific terms appear across the platform. These are precise definitions.

Teamed Select
A designation awarded by Teamed to candidate profiles that demonstrate a higher standard of professionalism, profile completeness, and work sample quality. Highly professional candidates with complete, well-presented profiles and strong portfolio samples are taken seriously at Teamed and are surfaced first to hiring managers browsing the Talent Pool. The designation is re-evaluated each time a candidate updates their profile. It is not a permanent status and is not purchased — it is earned.
Talent Pool visibility modes
Send my information: Teamed shares the candidate's resume directly with matched employers without requiring per-instance approval. Ask me first: Teamed notifies the candidate of matches and waits for approval before sharing. Keep private: The candidate's profile is hidden from hiring managers; they browse and apply independently.
Go Live
The toggle that controls whether a candidate's Talent Pool profile is visible to hiring managers. When Live, the profile appears in hiring manager searches. When off, the profile is hidden. Candidates can toggle this at any time from their dashboard.
Snapshot
A short-form signal a candidate sets to communicate their current search status to hiring managers and the matching engine. Includes search intent (actively seeking, open to opportunity, or just exploring), employment type preference, location preference, work hours, and current role level. Updated independently of the full profile and can be changed at any time.
Career Match Settings
An extended preference layer used by the AI matching engine to improve match quality. Captures growth intent, availability, location and travel preferences, work structure preferences, compensation priorities, and career readiness signals. Not shown to hiring managers — used only by the matching engine. Completing Career Match Settings improves the relevance of job and resource recommendations.
Featured placement
A job post or career resource that appears at the top of its respective board above standard listings. Professional plan employers receive 4 featured job placements per month, refreshing at the start of each month. Featured placements increase visibility significantly without changing eligibility or match logic.
Employer of Record (EOR)
When an employer hires a contractor through Teamed's EOR service, Teamed becomes the legal employer of that contractor for payroll and compliance purposes. Teamed handles onboarding, timekeeping, payroll processing, and tax compliance. The contractor works day-to-day for the hiring organization. Billing is monthly based on actual hours worked — the client is invoiced 20% of the contractor's billed earnings each month. Available for both 1099 and W2 contractor structures.
Contract-to-hire
An engagement structure where a professional is initially hired as a contractor and then converted to a direct employee after a defined period. Teamed supports contract-to-hire engagements with a reduced conversion fee. This structure allows organizations to evaluate a candidate before making a full-time employment offer.

05Services & pricing for employers

Teamed offers three employer plans. All plans include access to the job board and Talent Pool. Clients often move between these services depending on what they need at a given time — starting with self-service job posts, engaging full-service recruitment for critical hires, and leaning on the Talent Pool for ongoing proactive sourcing.

06Recruitment rates

All Teamed recruitment fees are contingency-based — no fee is due until a hire is made. Percentages are calculated on annualized compensation (annual salary for employees; annualized contract rate for contractors).

The 1099 EOR rate (20%) covers recruitment plus Teamed serving as the legal employer of record for a 1099 contractor — handling onboarding, timekeeping, and payroll processing, billed monthly based on hours actually worked. The W2 EOR rate (35%) adds tax withholding, W2 issuance, and benefits compliance. Volume discounts are available for organizations with ongoing or multi-role hiring needs.

07AI matching

Teamed's AI matching engine surfaces job opportunities and career resources for candidates based on their profile data, Snapshot settings, and Career Match Settings. The matching engine is governed by explicit rules designed to produce fair, relevant, and trustworthy results.

What drives matches
Skills, tools, experience level, employment type preference, location, availability, and Career Match Settings fields. Matches are based on capability and availability — not behavioral signals.
Match rationale
Every match includes a plain-English explanation of why the job or resource fits the candidate. Rationale is preserved and surfaced to the candidate — it is not replaced by a score or percentage ranking.
Signal governance
Behavioral signals — saves, dismissals, clicks — are advisory only and influence recommendation ordering within a session. They never affect a candidate's eligibility for any role or their Talent Pool visibility. The matching engine is designed to detect and ignore signal-gaming attempts.
Refresh rate
Match results refresh every 24 hours or when a candidate updates their profile or resume. The 24-hour cooldown is bypassed only on profile update.
Resource matching
The Career Board matching layer surfaces professional development resources — courses, certifications, events — based on a candidate's skill gaps and career goals. Resource recommendations are separate from job matching and update independently.

08For candidates

Teamed is free for candidates. The job board is publicly accessible — anyone can browse and apply to jobs without an account. A free account unlocks personalized AI job matches, the Career Board, saved jobs, and the ability to opt into the Talent Pool. There are no fees for candidates at any stage, including being hired through the Talent Pool.

Candidates build a profile that includes their professional summary, work history, skills, tools, portfolio samples, education, and credentials. The profile powers both Talent Pool visibility (for employers to find the candidate) and AI matching (for the platform to surface relevant jobs and resources).

Profile completeness matters for two reasons: it improves match quality, and it determines Teamed Select eligibility. Candidates are encouraged to keep profiles current — Teamed Select status is re-evaluated on every profile update.

Teamed Pro — a premium candidate tier including an AI career coach, skill gap analysis, and profile optimization guidance — is in development and not yet available. The current free tier includes AI job matching and skill matching.

09For employers

Employers create a free account to post jobs and access the Talent Pool. The Starter plan (free) includes up to 5 active job posts and Talent Pool access with a $500 per-hire fee. The Professional plan ($299/month) includes unlimited job posts, 4 featured placements per month (refreshing monthly), no Talent Pool hire fee, and priority support.

Employers considering full recruitment services schedule an intake meeting with Teamed. Recruitment engagements begin with a role analysis — Teamed helps organizations clarify what they actually need before sourcing begins. This is a deliberate part of the process: Teamed's recruiters bring domain expertise to the scoping conversation, not just the sourcing phase.

Employers who need to hire contractors can add Teamed's contractor management services to any hiring path. Teamed handles legal onboarding, timekeeping, and payroll for 1099 and W2 contractors, billing clients monthly based on hours actually worked. This includes contract-to-hire structures, where a contractor can later convert to a direct employee at a reduced fee.

10For resource partners

Teamed works with a network of resource partners who supply content to the Career Board — course providers, certification bodies, event organizers, coaching practices, and independent educators serving the L&D field. Partners post professional development resources that are then strategically matched to candidates based on their skill gaps, career goals, and stated growth intent.

Resources are reviewed by Teamed before going live to ensure they're relevant to L&D professionals, accurately described, and held to a standard of quality. Approved partners can post standard listings and pay to feature resources for higher visibility — featured resources appear at the top of the Career Board, similar to featured job placements.

This partnership model is what makes the Career Board a curated directory rather than an open catalog. Candidates see resources that have been vetted and matched to where they actually want to grow, and partners reach an audience of L&D professionals specifically — not a general learning marketplace.

Organizations interested in becoming Career Board partners can reach out through Teamed's partner page. Partnership terms vary based on resource type, volume, and featured placement needs.

11What Teamed is not

Teamed has a deliberate scope. Here's where it ends.

Not a general job board
Teamed lists only learning and development roles. Organizations cannot post software engineering, marketing, HR, or other roles on Teamed, even if those organizations also hire L&D professionals.
Not a managed services provider
Teamed staffs the professionals who do L&D work — it does not take on L&D projects itself. Organizations seeking a vendor to build courses or manage training programs need a managed services provider, not a staffing platform.
Not a freelance marketplace
Teamed is not a platform for posting short-term gigs or requesting bids on L&D projects. It is a staffing and career platform for direct engagement between employers and professionals.
Not a resume database
Teamed's Talent Pool consists only of professionals who have actively opted into visibility. Hiring managers cannot bulk-download candidate data or contact candidates who have not opted into the pool.
Not score-driven
Teamed's matching engine does not rank candidates by a score or percentile. Matches are based on capability and availability, explained in plain language, and are not influenced by how much an employer pays or how long they have been on the platform.

12Common questions

Yes. Teamed serves global clients and has placed candidates across multiple countries, though our primary audience is largely concentrated in the US and Canada. International candidates can create profiles and are visible on the job board, and Teamed regularly supports cross-border engagements. Employer of Record and payroll services vary by jurisdiction — candidates and employers working outside the US or Canada should reach out so Teamed can confirm what's available in their specific region.
Teamed reviews candidate profiles for completeness, professional presentation, and the quality of skills and portfolio representation. Teamed Select is awarded when a profile meets a higher standard across these dimensions. Critically, it is re-evaluated every time a candidate updates their profile — candidates who keep profiles current have the best chance of maintaining Select status. The designation is not purchased and cannot be applied for directly.
A $500 placement fee is charged when a hire is made from the Talent Pool on the Starter plan. This fee is separate from any contractor payroll fees. On the Professional plan, there is no per-hire fee for Talent Pool hires. If your organization makes even one Talent Pool hire per month, upgrading to Professional ($299/mo) pays for itself.
The Job Board is employer-initiated: an employer posts a job, candidates see it and apply. The Talent Pool is candidate-initiated: professionals opt into visibility and employers browse to find them. Both are included in all Teamed employer plans. Many organizations use both simultaneously — posting jobs for inbound applications while browsing the Talent Pool for proactive outreach.
Based on Teamed's placement history, most roles are filled within 2–6 weeks from the start of an engagement. Timelines vary based on role seniority, specialization, location requirements, and budget. In some cases, Teamed has placed candidates in as little as one day from first contact when the right match is already in the Talent Pool.
Yes. Teamed serves L&D professionals at all experience levels, from career changers and recent graduates through executive-level leaders. Entry-level candidates should ensure their portfolio, education, and transferable skills are clearly represented in their profile, as these are weighted more heavily when experience is limited.
Yes. The job board is publicly accessible — anyone can browse and apply to job listings without creating an account, as many postings route applications to the employer's preferred channel (external ATS, email, or on-platform). A free candidate account is required to see personalized AI match results, save jobs, and opt into the Talent Pool. The Talent Pool itself is accessible only to logged-in employer accounts.
When an employer engages Teamed's Employer of Record service, Teamed legally onboards the contractor, sets up timekeeping, and processes payroll. Contractor fees are billed monthly based on hours actually worked — Teamed invoices the client each month for 20% of the contractor's billed earnings, so cost scales with actual usage rather than a flat upfront fee. For 1099 contractors, Teamed issues 1099 forms and handles payment processing. For W2 contractors, Teamed handles withholding, tax filing, and W2 issuance. The contractor works at the direction of the employer but is legally employed by Teamed for the duration of the engagement.
Teamed is building infrastructure for agents acting on behalf of candidates. Currently, agents can operate within an authenticated candidate session. A REST API with explicit permission scopes (read, write, apply) is in development. All agent actions are logged and disclosed. Visibility changes — such as toggling Talent Pool status — always require human confirmation and cannot be automated.
